Jacob Samuel Snider is an American composer, pianist, orchestrator, and improviser from Philadelphia, based in Los Angeles. He writes for the concert hall and the screen. Named Best New Artist by NPR affiliate WXPN, he has been featured at SXSW, on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, and the BBC. He has scored award-winning films that have premiered at festivals from Sundance Film Festival (Training Wheels) to Tribeca (Common Ground). He has also composed music for advertising (Houlihan Lokey, Progressive USA), and political campaigns (New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy). In 2024, Snider’s orchestral piece American Lapse – a “majestic work” (Worcester Telegram) – had its world premiere with the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra. His score for the 2025 documentary Common Ground (Amazon MGM Studios, starring Laura Dern, Rosario Dawson, Jason Momoa, and Donald Glover) earned him a record deal with BMG for the original motion picture soundtrack, and Oscar® consideration for Best Original Score at the 96th Academy Awards®. He is currently the 2025-2026 Composer-in-Residence for the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.
